Comprehensive Learning

STUDENTS WHO PARTICIPATE IN THE ARTS HAVE HIGHER GRADES & TEST SCORES IN MATH & READING. CURRENTLY ONLY 1/3 OF NEWBERG 8TH GRADE STUDENTS MEET GRADE LEVEL EXPECTATIONS.

(American for the Arts & Oregon Department of Education)

I will focus on comprehensive learning for our students, supporting Career & Technical Education, Performing Arts, and FFA, so graduates leave Newberg schools with a well rounded education that will ensure their success whether they go on to college or not.

Adequate Staffing

100+ NSD EMPLOYEES LEFT THE NEWBERG SCHOOL DISTRICT BETWEEN JULY 2021 - DECEMBER 2022.

(Newberg School District 29J Board of Director Meeting Consent Agendas, Staff Directory)

Schools are struggling to recruit and retain necessary staff.  I will work to increase our staff in order to meet the needs of our students. I want to learn more about what we are doing right, and what can be done better  to have adequate staffing for our schools.

Increasing Enrollment

949 STUDENTS HAVE LEFT NSD OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS.

(Oregon Department of Education & Newberg School District 29J)

This decrease in enrollment is more than three times what neighboring districts have seen in enrollment trends. This loss directly affects funding, program availability and our ability to recruit and retain teachers and staff. As Director, I will make decision to encourage inreasing enrollment, meeting students and parent needs for this post-pandemic era.
